he Tangerang regency administration has declared an emergency disaster response status for the Jatiwaringin landfill fire until July 14 to optimize the handling by a joint team.
“In accordance with prevailing regulations, after a regent decree on emergency status is issued, the decree is valid for 14 days, Tangerang Regent Moch. Maesyal Rasyid said in Tangerang on Sunday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
“However, if the disaster response could go optimized and swiftly, then the emergency status could be adjusted according to the condition in the field.”
According to local authorities, the blaze broke out on Tuesday afternoon and spread rapidly across the landfill in Mauk district, driven by strong winds.
Meanwhile, Deputy Environment Minister Diaz Faisal Malik Hendropriyono said the fire at Jatiwaringin landfill was being continuously handled by a joint operation involving various agencies.
He said the ministry had deployed drones equipped with thermal cameras to detect heat radiation to analyze the fire source and hot spots.
The ministry also deployed two mobile monitoring systems to monitor air quality in the fire location.
