Certain foods are good only in small portions and not too often for a healthy diet.
On that note, do not consume the following seven foods in excess, put together by Reader´s Digest.
Avocado
The trendy green fruit is indeed healthy as it lowers cholesterol and improves hair, skin and nails. Nevertheless, do not consume too much of its fats and calories as one avocado delivers about 250.
Nuts
Nuts consist of healthy fats benefitting the heart but are 80 percent fat and have many calories. Substituting unhealthy fats, nuts can be added as a topping to healthy dishes. But to avoid unnecessary calories, consume the healthy snack in moderation.
Canned tuna
High in protein and heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, tuna is a delicious and healthy food that can be eaten by itself or added to sandwiches, salads or pasta.
However, when consumed in high amounts, it can contain a high level of mercury, which is especially dangerous for pregnant women as it could pose health risks to the unborn baby. Hence, even though canned tuna is convenient and delicious it should not be overeaten.
Soy
Processed to tofu, sauce, milk or tempeh soy is a healthy alternative to meat. Due to its high amount of proteins it suits well for a vegan or vegetarian diet. But having too much of the beans can lead to estrogen in the body what might worsen some hormonal disorders.

Chicken
Chicken is often used for low-calorie dinners as it is supposed to cut calories. Being low in fat, it is a great source of proteins, vitamins and minerals.
When purchasing the meat, always check the brand or even better buy at local farmers. Factory-farmed chicken are often pumped with antibiotics which is harmful to the human body. The same is true of beef.
Carrots
Who would have thought that too many carrots can be unhealthy? Like many other vegetables they are high in fiber which slows down the sugar absorption, but compared to others, carrots are richer in calories and sugar.
This sugar called sucrose is the same that we buy in a supermarket. As we all know, table sugar can cause tooth decay and an increased blood sugar.
White potatoes
Potatoes are healthy, tasty and versatile. But be careful with different varieties of the vegetable. Eating too much mashed potatoes with bacon or greasy French fries is not healthy and should be avoided. (sop/kes)
