Transjakarta will conduct a trial run for electric buses this year, inviting bus operators to participate.
Transjakarta president director Agung Wicaksono said the company would conduct the trial run for electric buses on corridors with high numbers of passengers so that the effort to raise public awareness would be effective.
The trial, Agung said on Wednesday, may be held on Corridor 13 serving the Ciledug of Tangerang-Kapten Tendean of South Jakarta route or Corridor 1 serving the Blok M in South Jakarta-Kota in West Jakarta route that had a larger number of passengers.
The company is inviting operators to use electric buses for the trial, adding that two operators had shown an interest to cooperate with Transjakarta.
“If there are [operators] that can provide [electric] buses for a trial run this year, why not? As long as it meets the operational standards,” he said as quoted by tempo.co.
The provision of electric buses is aimed at reducing air pollution produced by vehicle exhaust fumes. Governor Anies Baswedan has instructed Tranjakarta to conduct a trial run for electric buses this year. (fac)
