The regent of Bantul in Yogyakarta has revoked a building permit (IMB) previously obtained by the Immanuel Sedayu Pentecostal Church (GPdI) on the grounds that the church violated the regency's laws because it is also the pastor's house.
he regent of Bantul in Yogyakarta has refused to reconsider his decision to revoke a building permit (IMB) for an Indonesian Pentecostal Church (GPdI) in Sedayu district, deciding instead to face a possible lawsuit.
The regency revoked the (IMB) previously obtained for the Immanuel Sedayu GPdI, citing the fact that the church was combined with the pastor’s home.
Regent Suharsono acknowledged church pastor and leader Tigor Yunus Sitorus’ right to seek legal recourse should he take issue with the administration’s decision.
“By all means, file a lawsuit in court,” Suharsono told the press on Monday.
The application for the IMB was submitted in 2017 after the Bantul administration issued Regental Decree No. 98/2016 on guidelines for building houses of worship. The regency administration issued the permit on Jan. 15 this year.
The IMB was revoked after the signing of Bantul Regental Decree No. 345/2019 by Suharsono on Friday.
Suharsono said the church’s IMB was revoked because Tigor had failed to fulfill certain legal requirements. He added that the revocation was not at all political, and was done purely on legal grounds.
