Woman inspired by soap opera to cover up murder of husband, stepson

A
soap opera reportedly inspired a woman to kill her husband and stepson as she faced debt issues, police have said.
The 45-year-old woman, identified only as AK, had reportedly been planning to murder Edi Candra Purnama, 54, and stepson, M. Adi “Dana” Pradana, 23, since July after Edi refused to sell his house to pay her Rp 10 billion (US$703,455) debt.
Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said AK admitted to the police that the murder and cover up was inspired by a soap opera she frequently watched.
Argo said that before AK orchestrated the murder on Aug 23, she had tried to kill her husband and stepson by using witchcraft.
“She paid the husband of her ex-domestic worker, identified only as RD, Rp 40 million to find a shaman who could kill her husband and stepson using black magic. However it did not work,” he said as reported by kompas.com.
Jakarta Police detective and crime unit director Sr. Comr. Suyudi Ario Seto said AK then asked RD to buy a gun to kill both victims. The gun cost around Rp 50 million but AK could only provide Rp 35 million.
“The second plan did not work because the gun was too expensive for AK,” Suyudi said.
