The Indonesian Television Journalists Association (IJTI) has announced that at least 96 journalists and electronic media workers have contracted COVID-19, prompting the group to establish a special task force to help curb the spread of infection among media workers.
"So far 57 media workers have tested positive for COVID-19 through PCR [polymerase chain reaction] tests. We also found six people whose rapid test results were reactive,” AJI Surabaya head Miftah Faridl told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
An online petition calling for the release of South Kalimantan journalist Diananta "Nanta" Putera Samedi, who was recently arrested for his reporting of a land dispute, continues to gather support, reaching over 10,000 signatures as of Sunday.
“The journalist’s personal information has been spread through social media like Facebook and YouTube to be used in a campaign of harassment against him,” said Asnil Bambani, chairman of the Jakarta Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI).
