View all search resultsThe Andoolo District Court in South Konawe, South Sulawesi, has begun the trial of a 36-year-old contract teacher accused of hitting one of her first grade students, the child of a local police officer, with a broom at SDN 4 Baito state elementary school.
Authorities are investigating Global Ikhwan Services and Business (GISB) for allegedly running charity homes from which police last week rescued more than 400 children and youth. Police said many showed signs of sexual abuse and neglect.
Cases include Nobel-winning Bishop Carlos Ximenes Belo, who helped Asia's youngest nation free itself from Indonesian occupation, but who the Vatican secretly punished over claims he had sexually abused young children for decades.
