View all search resultsThe Jakarta chapter of the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI Jakarta) has condemned a social media influencer who doxed the personal information of a Bisnis Indoensia journalist who wrote a report on the increased trade value between Indonesia and Israel, while calling for the public to file all press-related complaints to the Press Council.
The recent doxing by an anonymous account on social media targeting a car passenger who was caught in a mudik (exodus) traffic jam and was seen shouting abuse at a police officer has raised questions over digital data security.
The intimidation was apparently inspired by a fact-check article published on Sept. 10, in which Cakra refuted claims that a member of the House of Representatives from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is the grandson of the founder of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) in West Sumatra.
“The journalist’s personal information has been spread through social media like Facebook and YouTube to be used in a campaign of harassment against him,” said Asnil Bambani, chairman of the Jakarta Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI).
