View all search resultsThe government plans to allocate at least 4.3 million kiloliters of Premium-brand gasoline in Java, Madura and Bali until the end of the year, in line with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s instruction to ensure that the cheapest gasoline was available until 2019.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has reportedly given his approval for a revised presidential regulation ensuring the supply of Premium-branded gasoline in Java, Madura and Bali, regions where the fuel was previously phased out.
State-owned energy giant Pertamina is set to import EURO IV gasoline to comply with the government’s mandate to boost the air quality of several regions prior to the 2018 Asian Games (Asiad) in August and the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank in October.
As a consequence, the government will have to phase out RON 88 gasoline, which constitutes 87 percent of fuel consumed in the country. This policy will definitely affect the majority of car owners, who have enjoyed subsidized Premium fuel for a long time at the country’s expense.
Just a week ago, fuel was often a scarce commodity in the Karimunjawa islands, a national park located 80 kilometers off Central Java’s northern coastline. However, this has changed since the government’s one-price fuel policy was introduced to the area on Monday.
Anger over gasoline prices hikes in Mexico fueled more protests and looting Thursday, and officials said the unrest had resulted in the death of a policeman and a bystander, the ransacking of 300 stores and arrests of over 700 people.
