View all search resultsThe ministry is planning to outline Indonesia's pledge to reduce emissions by 29 percent independently -- or 41 percent if with international assistance -- by 2030, the same target outlined in the first NDC submitted in 2016 as a part of the Paris Agreement goals of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
The 25th United Nations Climate Change conference, known as COP25, in Madrid, Spain, ended earlier this month in vain.The conference’s tagline was Tiempo de actuar (time to act). Ironically, the majority of over 200 participating countries, including Indonesia, failed to take real action to tackle the climate crisis.
Under the cap and trade mechanism, parties are required to keep their greenhouse gas emissions below a certain level, or cap, set by either the authorities or the market. Should their pollution be found to have exceeded the maximum level, they must pay the excess pollution to other parties that successfully maintain their emissions below the cap.
