The country is predicted to continue importing sugar until 2019 because of the ongoing revitalization of sugar factories owned by state-owned sugar company PT Perkebunan Nusantara, which is expected to be completed within two years, an expert has said.
As the holy month approaches, households are beginning to scour markets for ingredients to make sweet snacks for breaking the fast. Such searches, however, can turn sour when customers learn about the skyrocketing sugar prices amid a lack of supply.
