President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called for an immediate implementation of an ASEAN travel corridor on Monday ahead of the bloc's summits, in order to speed up economic recovery as confidence grows in COVID-19 outbreak control.
Data sharing and universal health standards are key to building regional resilience against the threat of another pandemic, ASEAN health ministers said, as fears over a third wave of COVID-19 infections loom over the region.
“We hope that once the COVID-19 situation has become more conducive, the travel corridor arrangements can be implemented in a short period of time,” Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno told reporters on Monday.
