State-owned railway company PT KAI is holding a book fair at six train stations from Nov. 14 to 18.

As reported by tempo.co, the Book Fair on Station event aims to increase the public's interest in reading by bringing books as sources of reading to the stations.

Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiaji, the passenger marketing VP at KAI, opened the event on Wednesday night.

“It is being held simultaneously at Gambir, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Purwokerto, Semarang Tawang and Surabaya Gubeng stations,” he said.

Visitors can buy high-quality books provided by bookstore retailer Gramedia with a 10 percent discount. Those with the KAI Access app on their phones will get an additional 5 percent discount.

The books available range from books on self-development and religion to comic books about an original train character named Si Loko.

Young visitors can also participate in various activities every day, such as coloring, short story writing and announcer competitions. They can also join in pouch painting and children's talk shows.

According to the executive VP of operations area 6 Yogyakarta, Eko Purwanto, Book Fair on Station is an effort to provide various knowledge to the public.

"Because it’s placed at stations, this event can be a unique and fun educational media for children," Eko added. (iru/kes)
