ary Jane Veloso, a Filipina domestic worker who was sentenced to death 14 years ago in Indonesia, is scheduled return to her home country on Wednesday as part of a prisoner transfer agreement between Jakarta and Manila.
I Nyoman Gede Surya Mataram, a deputy at the Office of the Coordinating Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Correctional Services Minister, said on Monday that Veloso would return on a Ceibu Pacific flight scheduled to depart from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
Veloso was moved on Sunday night from a women’s prison in Yogyakarta to a women’s prison in Jakarta, where she arrived at 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning.
“We will bring her to the airport at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday,” Nyoman said. “The travel documents and airplane ticket have all been prepared by the [Philippine] embassy.”
Veloso, now 39, was arrested in 2010 at Adisutjipto International Airport in Yogyakarta for bringing a suitcase containing 2.6 kilograms of heroin from Kuala Lumpur.
She maintained her innocence throughout the trial, but was sentenced to death in the same year.
Veloso was granted a last-minute stay of execution in 2015 and Manila afterwards began appealing to Indonesia for clemency.
