This occurred despite the government moving to lower airline ticket prices in a bid to prop up air travel demand.
ales of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina’s aviation turbine fuel (avtur) fell by 1.1 percent during this year’s Idul Fitri holiday compared with the same period last year, following a decline in homecoming trips, known as mudik (exodus).
Pertamina spokesperson Fadjar Djoko Santoso said the decline was in line with data released by the Transportation Ministry that pointed to a decline in people participating in the Idul Fitri exodus.
“The amount of homecoming travelers in 2025 indeed went down compared with 2024. That’s likely why the [sales] of avtur went down,” Fadjar said in a press conference on Monday, as cited by Kontan.
This occurred despite the government reducing airfares in a bid to prop up demand.
Pertamina’s fuel sales, however, still saw an increase compared with the non-Idul Fitri period with sales of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and Pertamina’s subsidized RON-90 gasoline Pertalite instead going up by 3.7 and 9.5 percent, respectively.
Its unsubsidized diesel and gasoline also saw an increase during the Idul Fitri period compared with outside the festive period.
The company’s gasoline sales also dropped by 2 percent, while industrial fuel plummeted by 18.9 percent compared with last year’s Idul Fitri period.
