After failing to answer his first summons, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Firli Bahuri appeared on Tuesday for police questioning in an investigation into the alleged extortion of former agriculture minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo.
orruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Firli Bahuri appeared on Tuesday for police questioning in an investigation into the alleged extortion of former agriculture minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo.
Firli arrived at the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) headquarters in South Jakarta at around 10 a.m. Firli was seen exiting the Bareskrim building at around 8 p.m. the same day, evading reporters’ questions.
The Jakarta Police had been handling the alleged extortion case, but they received a letter on Monday from Firli, a retired police general, requesting that the questioning to take place at the Bareskrim headquarters, according to Jakarta Police special criminal investigations director Sr. Comr. Ade Safri Simanjuntak.
“[My] directorate has coordinated with Bareskrim’s corruption directorate for today’s questioning of Firli, who is a witness in the case,” Ade said on Tuesday.
“No special treatment given by the investigators to Firli during the questioning,” he added.
Investigators had also confiscated several letters and documents from the KPK headquarters as evidence on Monday. Ade, however, did not disclose any details regarding the seized documents.
The KPK chairman skipped his first summons on Friday, citing a scheduling conflict with his work. The antigraft body had informed the police investigators ahead of time of Firli’s absence, according to KPK deputy chairman Nurul Ghufron.
