F

ormer North Sumatra governor Edy Rahmayadi went on the offensive in the second round of the gubernatorial election debate on Wednesday in the provincial capital, challenging rival candidate Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution to clarify why his name is mentioned in a graft case.

The two candidates continued their fiery exchange as they bid for the North Sumatra gubernatorial seat in the regional head elections on Nov. 27.

In the first round on Oct. 30 that focused on public service and welfare, Bobby launched an offensive by criticizing Edy over the people’s difficulty in accessing health care and education.

This time, Edy led the charge in addressing the topic of “Increasing Regional Competitiveness and Sustainable Development”, noting the province’s abundance of mineral resources, including coal and gold.

“I would like to remind us all, do not play around with the mines here, as they are supposed to be for the people’s prosperity that is managed by the state,” he said on Wednesday.

The former governor also said Bobby must clarify his association with the term “Blok Medan” (Medan Block), emphasizing that he did not want the name of the provincial capital to be used in an euphemism referring to a graft case in North Maluku.
