undreds of people grouped under the Pelalawan Students and Public Alliance staged a demonstration in front of the Riau Governor’s Office on Monday in response to a planned relocation from Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN).

The demonstrators said the relocation does not provide certainty for the affected people’s housing and livelihoods.

Rally coordinator Wandri Saputra Simbolon said they would remain in the national park area because they have lived there for generations.

“We reject the relocation and we will fight for our rights,” he said.

“We are not illegal settlers, we have lived there for generations and we will stay there.”

He said the statement labeling the people living in TNTN as illegal settlers was baseless.
