A

baby boy was among the 232 Indonesians who arrived at Batam Centre Point International Ferry Terminal on May 7-8, their repatriation organized by the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru.

The deportees had set sail from the ports of Stulang Laut and Pasir Gudang in Johor state and consisted of 176 men, 54 women, a 16-month-old toddler and a 3-month-old infant, both male. Many of them originally hailed from the provinces of Aceh, East Java, North Sumatra, Riau and West Nusa Tenggara.

Prior to their repatriation, the Indonesians were held at immigration detention depots (DTI) across Malaysia: 100 deportees at the Pekan Nenas DTI in Johor state; 37 at the Machap Umboo DTI in Malacca; 32 at the Tanah Merah DTI in Kelantan; 32 at the Bukit Jalil DTI in Kuala Lumpur and 30 at the Beranang DTI in Selangor.

The toddler was placed in a temporary shelter at the consulate general and repatriated with his mother after she had served her allotted time in detention.

The infant was cared for by a joint team of personnel from the consulate general and Malaysia’s Social Welfare Department, which falls under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. He was also repatriated with his mother after she had served her time at the Pekan Nenas DTI.
