Although he was not present, Kalla had prepared 10,000 envelopes containing money for poor families in the city.
ice President Jusuf Kalla was unable to host an open house at his residence in Makassar, South Sulawesi on Friday because he "has some health troubles". He has always hosted the event personally in previous years, but this year his children replaced him.
Kalla held the event annually to strengthen the relations between him and his neighbors. During the open house, the vice president would distribute zakat (tithes) to low-income residents. Hundreds of civil servants in the province and in Makassar also attended the event.
Kalla’s son, Solihin Kalla, said that his father prepared 10,000 envelopes containing money to be distributed to low-income families.
“We already prepared 10,000 envelopes like last year,” he said as quoted by Antara on Friday. He did not specify the amount of cash in each envelope.
Meanwhile, Makassar Mayor M. Iqbal Samad Suhaebdan was also at the event.
“I’m praying for him so he can get well soon and start contributing ideas and positive feedback for the nation,” Iqbal said. (dpk)
