More people are using pay-later option for shopping online in Indonesia as many have experienced pay cuts or lost their jobs during the pandemic.
he pay-later option is becoming increasingly popular as more and more online shoppers defer payment amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a survey conducted by credit lending app Kredivo and research company Katadata Insight Center (KIC).
Fifty-five percent of all pay-later users began to avail themselves of the option only last year, according to the online survey involving 3,560 people between March 26 and 30. A majority of users said they planned to keep using the pay-later option either indefinitely or at least for the next three months.
“Nearly half of them, namely 49 percent, said they were going to increase their pay-later use,” KIC research director Mulya Amri said at an online event on Wednesday, adding that “45 percent said they would use it at the same level as today, and only 6 percent said they were going to reduce it.”
Pay-later, a facility allowing consumers to pay for goods bought online within a month or up to one year, has gained popularity at a time when many people have experienced pay cuts and struggle to meet their needs, including gadgets for working and learning from home.
