View all search resultsVoting in Indonesia is not a case of going into an Italian ice-cream parlor with 64 flavors to choose from. Voting is more like, to use the Indonesian expression, “buying a cat in the gunny sack”. They choose their cats blindly, not knowing and not caring whether they get alley cats, fat cats, wild cats or smelly cats.
Several public figures went to the General Elections Commission (KPU) building in Central Jakarta to encourage them following threats made by the Prabowo Subianto camp suggesting that they would take to the streets and mobilize ‘people power’ should they find proof of fraud in the upcoming general election.
The general election is still a month away but for some residents the voting has already begun, as on Sunday over a hundred members of the Jakarta Urban Poor Network cast their ballots to select legislative candidates hoping to win their support.
