Indonesia’s national healthcare and social security digital ecosystem, which is managed by BPJS Kesehatan (Healthcare and Social Security Agency), has been recognized for its best practices in social security management. This was revealed during the opening ceremony of the 17th International Conference on Information and Communications Technology in Social Security (ICT 2024) held by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and BPJS Kesehatan in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Wednesday.
Analysts have urged finalizing the prolonged discussions over a Coordination of Benefits (COB) scheme, which they say will reduce public-private competition and ultimately help the government toward achieving its universal health coverage goal, alleviate risk for private insurers as well as ensure better health benefits for all.
The health minister appears to have backtracked on last month's comment about a special policy for wealthy subscribers, clarifying that the national healthcare agency will continue to provide basic health services under a standardized “universal” scheme that will eliminate the current three-tier health insurance.
