View all search resultsThe BPS is scheduled to commence its door-to-door efforts on Sept. 1, when census takers will visit homes to conduct interviews or provide questionnaires, according to the agency’s head Suhariyanto during the kick-off ceremony on Monday.
The 2020 national online population census is to be extended until May 29 as a mere 12 percent of the needed data was gathered by the March 31 deadline, with the door-to-door census also delayed as the country struggles with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The census provides an opportunity for the government to better assess the population's potential, especially those in the working-age bracket. It also comes at a critical time as the digital age offers opportunities for countries to make great leaps in economic development.
The population stories will be updated by the SP2020 next year. However, it will be quite challenging due to some issues such as a growing dominance of the privacy issue, public trust and limited leisure time for face-to-face interviews. As time passes, most Indonesians tend to become more individualistic and unwelcome toward censuses than before.
