View all search resultsThe Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested Bengkulu Governor Rohidin Mersyah and two other officials from the provincial administration in a raid on Saturday as part of an extortion and illegal gratuities case related to funds for Rohidin’s reelection campaign.
Prosecutors had said Emirsyah Satar, who ran Garuda from 2005 to 2014, had procured Bombardier's CRJ and ATR 72 jets without proper procedures and board approval in 2011, a court document showed. A "lack of transparency" led to the planes' poor performance, costing the state about $610 million.
The AGO has named several suspects, including the low-cost airline's cofounder, and seized several tin smelters in Bangka-Belitung Islands as part of its graft investigation into illegal tin processing activities that has cost the state up to US$17 billion.
Following her questioning on Thursday at the KPK headquarters, the House lawmaker from the PDI-P faction questioned the timing of the case involving a 2012 procurement project, suggesting that it was likely being politicized ahead of next week's election.
