Appointing a retired military doctor may disrupt meritocracy within civilian institutions and hindering the resolve of persistent issues faced by the Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) and the national health insurance (JKN), observers have said.
Over the past few days, many recipients of contribution assistance (PBI), whose premiums are fully covered by the state, were denied medical treatment at hospitals after their subsidized status was revoked without prior notice.
Criticism is growing over BPJS Kesehatan's ongoing data update in the new DTSEN system after a number of people have lost access to lifesaving treatments without notice, only to learn later that their healthcare subsidies were cut or their policies canceled altogether.
