The European Commission proposed a further softening of the EU anti-deforestation law on Tuesday, relieving the reporting burden for many smallholders and businesses in select countries but stepping back from delaying the world-first green policy by another year.
Indonesia also agreed to remove local content requirements for US firms, recognize US standards for vehicle and medical products, drop onerous licensing on US farm goods while recognizing US regulatory oversight and lift labeling and pre-shipment inspection mandates.

As the generally one-sided negative campaign against palm oil and palm oil products rages on, it may be wise to take a step back and consider that ethical trade is founded on the principle of equitable sustainability, and that this is also inclusive of palm oil producers.
The benefit of the RCEP is that even though it doesn’t call for liberalization at the same level, scope or depth of commitment as the CTPP, its impacts on the economies of member countries, and indeed on the world economy, will be massive.
