What is championed in society is not only individual rights, but also communal obligation and a system involving man, family, society, God and nature, as understood by the religions and traditions deeply embedded in the Indonesian fabric.
If they were still alive, our national heroes would be the first to tell us that many of the articles in the new penal code, especially those concerning our freedoms, are far worse than the ones they had lived through, and fought against.
