The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) condemned on Wednesday the killing of a New Zealand helicopter pilot, who was allegedly shot dead by armed rebels in restive Central Papua province earlier this week.
Personnel of the joint police-military Operation Cartenz Peace task force were hunting armed rebels on Tuesday who reportedly shot dead a New Zealand helicopter pilot in Central Papua, as authorities retrieved the body of the pilot.
The pilot was killed immediately after rebels rounded up those on board after the helicopter landed in a field in the Alama district in Central Papua, said Bayu Suseno, a spokesperson for the joint Indonesian police-military operations in Papua, citing a witness.
