View all search resultsThe initiative was introduced following the latest case of intolerance at Gemolong 1 State High School in Sragen regency last week, in which a female student was bombarded by threats sent through WhatsApp because she did not wear a hijab.
From their findings, the researchers highlighted several risk factors that could make pesantren susceptible to radicalism. Although all of the pesantren were against the use of violence, some Salafi schools were consistent in supporting the khilafah (Islamic State) system.
It found that 10 of those homeschooling institutions were based on “Islamic Salafism and exclusive” teachings, with the researchers arguing that the students receiving this type of homeschooling were more vulnerable to radicalism given the lack of engagement with other communities.
