View all search resultsOn Tuesday, the KPI and Perludem filed an unprecedented judicial review petition to challenge Article 1 (6) of Law No. 8/2015 on regional elections, which permits children below the age of 17 to vote if they are married.
Based on Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) in 2007 and 2014, the percentage of the elderly who did not vote increased in all national elections for the president. Difficulties in daily activities were found to have played a significant role.
Whenever I have been asked who I was voting for in this year’s election, I always answered “golput” (golongan putih, meaning to abstain). Interestingly, some ended the conversation after my reply, but most didn’t understand that I didn’t want to discuss politics.
