President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend the Bastille Day Parade on Monday morning in Paris as the guest of honor.
Other than observing the annual parade, Prabowo is also expected to witness the signing of several agreements, in addition to the ones signed in Jakarta during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit in May.
French newspaper Le Tribune reported on July 4 that Indonesia might sign a contract for 24 Dassault Rafale jet fighters, instead of 12 as mentioned during Macron’s visit. Also expected to be signed, or to come into effect, are contracts for two Scorpene submarines made by Naval Group and for 36 Caesar self-propelled guns made by weapons maker KNDS France.
The Patriot II Task Force, consisting of Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel and a joint cadet drum band, will be the opening column of the annual parade, thanks to Indonesia being named as the guest of honor in the parade of the French National Day.
The parade starts at 9:55 a.m. local time, or 2:55 p.m. Jakarta time along Champs-Élysées Avenue, and runs for about two hours.
The Patriot II Task Force consisted of 262 ceremonial troops from the TNI’s three services and 189 cadets from the TNI Academy consisting of the military, navy and air force academies. Cadets from the Police Academy will also join the drum band.
Brig. Gen. Ferry Irawan lead the contingent, which arrived in Paris on two separate flights on July 6 and 7. The contingent is housed at military barracks in Satory, south of Versailles, some 17 kilometers from Paris city center.
