he Foreign Ministry has neither received information about, nor made preparations for, a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and his United States counterpart Donald Trump, despite earlier government statements suggesting both leaders would meet to finalize the tariff agreement between the two countries.
“The ministry has received no information on any efforts or plans for such a meeting at the end of this month, or the next month,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang during a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.
She added that the President was not scheduled to make any international visits in the coming weeks. Prabowo’s next high-level engagement will be with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during the latter’s visit to Jakarta in February.
Prabowo has met Trump twice since assuming the presidency in October 2024.
The first meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September. Both leaders met again and had a brief informal conversation in October on the sidelines of the Gaza peace talks in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
However, the two leaders have not met in a formal bilateral meeting, with several analysts and observers pressing for such a meeting to take place in the near future.
Questions about a potential Prabowo-Trump meeting have arisen as the government works to finalize the Agreement on Reciprocal Tariff (ART) with the US.
