resident Prabowo Subianto has continued his series of Idul Fitri outreach calls to Muslim world leaders with a phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday.
The exchange with Abbas was part of Prabowo’s silaturahmi (strengthening kinship) with the Palestinian leader to mark the celebration of the Islamic holiday, said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
“This silaturahmi is aimed at maintaining our closeness [with Palestine] and strengthening our bilateral ties, especially during this significant Idul Fitri moment,” Teddy said as quoted in a statement issued on Monday.
Beyond holiday greetings, both leaders reportedly discussed recent developments in the Palestinian territories and the broader Middle East region, with Abbas praising Indonesia’s steadfast support for Palestine, according to the Palestinian state news agency WAFA.
Abbas also expressed gratitude for the humanitarian aid Indonesia has sent to Gaza throughout Israel’s military offensive in Gaza since October 2023, which has been labeled by a United Nations commission last year as amounting to a genocide.
