With over 1,700 startups, Indonesia has the fourth-highest number of startups in the world, four of which are “unicorns”.
n the fourth day of the fourth month this year, the government launched its strategy to ride the wave of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) with the “Making Indonesia 4.0” initiative.
With the confluence of avant-garde technology such as the internet of things and big data, the initiative is indeed a step in the right direction. As President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said, we cannot ignore and not utilize the revolution.
While nobody can refute that we still have a long way to go, some spark of optimism is warranted. Not only does the “Making Indonesia 4.0” have sound a strategy (e.g. upgrading human capital and establishing ecosystem for innovation), but the growth of startups in Indonesia is remarkable.
With over 1,700 startups, we have the fourth-highest number of startups in the world, four of which are “unicorns”. Jakarta also ranks as the eighth city in the world with the highest confidence among business executives for digital transformation.
