Digital transformation strategy on this year’s G20

ombok, Mataram – Digital transformation is one of the three priority sectors of Indonesia's G20 Presidency. This sector is considered as one of the keys to joint recovery efforts following the global COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, economy digitalization is growing very rapidly. Those who adapt and took advantage of digitalization have proven to be able to survive during the pandemic and in the global competition. This is the key statement conveyed by Yohpy Ichsan Wardana, Secretary of the Directorate General of Multilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the opening of the G20 Fair seminar in Mataram, Thursday, March 31, 2022.

With the theme of "Thriving and Productive in the Digital Era: Designing the Future with Digital Transformation," the seminar was attended by 30 students of the Faculty of Economics, University of Mataram, with strict health protocols and physical distancing.

As the main speaker of the G20 Fair Mataram, Ambassador Muhsin Syihab, Expert Advisor for Inter-Agency Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, talked about the Work and Importance of the G20 Presidency. He emphasized that Indonesia’s G20 Presidency is not only the responsibility of the government or certain parties, but also belongs to all levels of society.

Indonesia Presidency in G20 also seeks to be inclusive, by inviting representatives from the Pacific and the Caribbean, two regions consisting of developing countries and small island states. The principle is that to recover stronger and sustainably, it must be done together. "We don't want to leave anyone behind in building the world, leave no one behind," he said. This is the core theme of Recover Together, Recover Stronger carried by Indonesia.

The goal of Indonesia's G20 Presidency is to produce tangible results for everyone. One of them is through mobilizing cooperation among G20 members in the form of investments, programs, capacity building, scholarships, and transfer of technology. For the Indonesian people themselves, Indonesia’s G20 Presidency is targeted to provide concrete benefits, especially through the presence of invited delegates from series of meetings held in several region in Indonesia which will stimulate the regional economy.

Meanwhile, Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, Director of Information Empowerment at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, gave a more specific explanation regarding digital developments. He stated that the G20 Indonesia Presidency is an opportunity for the Government and the community to develop digital transformation. "One of the exposures will showcase the development of Indonesia's digital transformation through the Digital Transformation Expo and the Digital Innovation Network," he explained.

Another speaker from the digital industry sector, Rangga D. Fadillah, GoTo 's Chief of Public Policy and Government Relations explained, "the key to answering the challenges faced in the digital economy is a continuous dialogue between the private sector and the government in achieving Digital Indonesia 2030," in discussing the role of the private sector in supporting the digital transformation agenda in Indonesia. The seminar was closed with responses from Dr. Firmansyah from Mataram University and Nurul Sofia from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' G20 Task Force.

The discussion session was very active, with a number of questions asked from the students participating in the seminar, from the condition of the digital world in Indonesia, digital infrastructure, how to create a startup, to the use of social media in the country. The discussion also placed a particular attention on the role of vulnerable people and women, which are considered very important to be able to contribute to the digital economy.

The G20 Fair Mataram seminar took place at the Mataram City Cultural Park and was broadcasted live through the TVRI NTB YouTube channel.

NTB Province itself was recorded as the host of five series of events in the G20 Presidency of Indonesia. One of them is the 1st Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG), which took place from 29-30 March 2022 in the Senggigi area. In the DEWG, many issues of digital transformation has been discussed in depth.

Following Mataram, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has planned the next series of G20 Fairs in several cities in Indonesia. Through these events, it is hoped to increase understanding and awareness of the benefits and the mission of the G20, in creating support from the community on the implementation of the Indonesian G20 Presidency.
