KCI is considering importing three trains due to rising passenger numbers, it expects them to be operational in 2024–2025.
T Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) is considering the option of importing three trains for the Greater Jakarta Commuter Line trains. The import option has resurfaced because KCI anticipates an increase in passenger numbers in the next couple of years.
KCI corporate secretary Anne Purba said on Monday that the three new trains would serve as a backup for the predicted rise in passenger volume in 2024–2025.
However, she declined to reveal from which country KCI will import the trains.
"This is still in the procurement phase, so I'm not ready to mention the brand, and I don't want to mention the country. Once it's completed, we will provide the information," said Anne.
According to Anne, KCI has set a target for the trains to be operational by 2024–2025 so the procurement process has to start now.
She said the specifics regarding the technology and the source of the trains will be revealed after the procurement process is completed, as they are currently in the bidding phase.
As KCI imports new trains, the company is also upgrading older trains wherever possible. The imported trains are intended to replace those that cannot be upgraded, which necessitates the introduction of a new fleet.
