Fans of 2NE1 were shocked on Friday to hear that the Korean girl group had disbanded.

According to Korean news outlet OSEN on Friday afternoon, South Korean entertainment company YG Entertainment has announced that the members of 2NE1 will be going their separate ways, with leader CL and member Sandara Park choosing to move forward as solo artists, while Park Bom will not continue working with the company.

Former member Gong Minzy announced her departure from the group earlier this year.

Fans around the world have expressed their shock at the news, as seen through posts on social media, including those using the hashtag #ThankYou2NE1 on Twitter. At the time of writing, the hashtag was trending worldwide with almost 18,300 tweets recorded.

2NE1 debuted in 2009 under YG Entertainment. The group was loved by fans the world for its distinctive music and fashion, with 100 million YouTube views for the I’m The Best music video.

In recent years, the members have actively pursued solo careers, with CL advancing into the US market and Sandara Park doing solo work as an actress and entertainment host. The four members’ last performance together was on the Mnet Asia Music Awards stage last year. (kes)
