View all search resultsThe Labuan Bajo Flores Tourism Authority (BPOLBF) aims to develop Flores Island as the premier Catholic tourism destination in Indonesia, in collaboration with stakeholders including the Archdiocese of Ende, the Diocese of Larantuka, the Diocese of Maumere, the Diocese of Ruteng and the Diocese of Labuan Bajo, as well as the tourism offices of nine local districts.
The government's efforts to embrace the opportunities and challenges of Catholic religious tourism on Flores Island continue to gain momentum and remain a special focus of all stakeholders. This is particularly significant given that religious tourism on Flores has the potential to increase visitor numbers, aid in tourist dispersal and drive economic growth for the island's population, which is the largest Catholic population in Indonesia.

With Labuan Bajo the epicenter of this week’s ASEAN meetings, the government said the tropical resort was a strategic pick to emphasize development in eastern regions outside of Java, despite some reservations from locals that the event had gotten in the way of their livelihoods.
