View all search resultsThousands of foreigners left Indonesia in the first three weeks of July amid the ongoing multi-tiered public activity restrictions (PPKM) aimed at curbing the spread of the more transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19.
Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly said on Wednesday that his ministry had issued an update on restrictions for foreigners wishing to travel to Indonesia. The update includes banning foreign workers of national strategic projects until the COVID-19 situation has changed.
The haj -- a must for able-bodied Muslims at least once in their lives -- typically packs millions of pilgrims into congested religious sites and could be a major source of contagion amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Exceptions, however, will be granted for long-term residents, those from countries who have travel corridor arrangements with Indonesia and those who get special permission from Indonesian ministries or institutions, but by still applying health protocols, including a five-day quarantine.
