View all search resultsOne of Indonesia’s most popular boba drink brands Xing Fu Tang finally received its halal certification on Tuesday from the Indonesian Ulema Council Food and Drug Analysis Agency (LPPOM MUI) and Halal Certification Agency (BPJPH).
A study on current halal standards shows an increasing awareness in countries and organizations globally about establishing their own halal standards. However, this trend is of a grave concern for halal industry players, especially practitioners, stakeholders, sharia advisors in general and Muslim customers in particular.
Almost five years have passed since the issuance of Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance (HPA) Law in October 2014. Recently, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo signed the Government Regulation for the implementation of HPA Law. Article 4 in HPA Law states that all products that enter, are circulated, and are traded Indonesia must be halal-certified. The question is: is Indonesia ready for this halal obligation?
Curetex Corp., a Japanese firm producing halal food at home, is using Singapore as a testbed to promote Japanese cuisine permissible under Islamic law as part of its efforts to expand sales of such food products in Japan and Southeast Asia.
