View all search resultsTwin blasts including a suicide bombing killed 15 people and wounded 75 others on a restive southern Philippine island on Monday, among them security forces and civilians, with Islamist militants suspected of being behind the attack.
The police found that the suicide bomber was affiliated with Islamic State-linked homegrown terror group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), and authorities have also discovered that the attack was premeditated and that the suspects had undergone training beforehand.
The suicide bombing at the Medan Police headquarters in North Sumatra on Wednesday is the latest reminder of the nation’s vulnerability to violent extremism. Acts of terrorism pose a serious threat not only to national security but also to our hard-won democracy.
