Foreign Ministry acting director for citizen protection Heni Hamidah said on Monday that the embassy remained in regular contact with Indonesian nationals in Iran so they were aware of a possible escalating situation, though the conditions in Tehran and surrounding areas remain conducive.
“There have been no reports of Indonesian citizens facing direct threats or dangerous situations so far,” Heni said in a statement.
Heni said the alert status of level 1 for Iran remains in effect to date since the embassy issued the highest alert level in June 2025, when Iran and Israel traded military attacks. Contingency plans, she added, also remained on standby, including various evacuation routes should the situation warrant it.
“The embassy has several times urged Indonesian citizens in Iran to consider leaving Iranian territory independently if security conditions in their region worsen,” she said.
Her remarks came amid a US military buildup in the Middle East, as President Donald Trump has given Tehran a deadline of 10 to 15 days to reach an agreement aimed at resolving the longstanding nuclear dispute, or "really bad things" will happen.
Washington has deployed a massive military force to the Middle East, sending two aircraft carriers, as well as more than a dozen other ships, a large number of warplanes and other assets to the region, AFP has reported. But negotiations are still set to continue, with a US official saying the next round of talks with Tehran would take place on Thursday.
