View all search resultsSeveral wildfire-prone regions in Sumatra and Kalimantan have issued fire alerts as the weather agency predicts a longer dry season starting later this month that may lead to crop failures and increase the risk of severe drought.
The weather agency has warned of torrential rains and heightened disaster risks ahead of Idul Fitri lasting until late March, particularly in West Java and Central Java, two provinces expected to see the largest mobility during the extended holiday.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the quake struck at 1:06 a.m. Its epicenter was located in the sea south of Java, 89 kilometers southeast of Pacitan regency in East Java, at a depth of 58 kilometers.
Persistent heavy rainfall across West and Central Java has triggered flooding and landslides with coastal areas bearing the greatest impact due to ongoing erosion. The situation is expected to continue in the coming days.
