View all search resultsPresident Donald Trump's envoy Jared Kushner is to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday after holding talks with Hamas leaders, as he tries to revive a Gaza peace plan that Israel has so far rejected.
After more than a week of gradually escalating criticism of the plan, and despite receiving assurances that Israel would not need to start withdrawing in Gaza immediately, Netanyahu explicitly opposed the deal following pushback from his right-wing allies.
Indonesia has condemned Israel’s renewed attacks on Gaza amid ongoing negotiations over the territory’s postwar reconstruction plan, saying the strikes have worsened the plight of Palestinians and urging Tel Aviv to fully honor its obligations under the ceasefire agreement.
United States President Donald Trump announced on his social media account that an agreement for a "complete disarmament" of Hamas had been reached, calling the deal a precedent for the next phases of the 20-point plan for lasting peace in Gaza.
In a statement, Katz's office said the two men spoke overnight and the minister "emphasised Israel's determination to remain in the security zones in Syria, Gaza, and Lebanon in order to protect Israel's borders and the communities near the border from the threats posed by jihadist forces".
