The police are investigating the identities of charred human remains found inside a building in Kwitang, Central Jakarta that was damaged in a fire during the late-August demonstrations, amid questions over whether the remains of two bodies may belong to two protesters still reported missing.
Two protesters, 23-year-old Muhammad Farhan Hamid and 24-year-old Reno Syachputra Dewo, are still missing after they reportedly participated in a violent protest in front of the Jakarta Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters in Central Jakarta in late August.
This month, protests demanding political and economic change continue, although smaller and more orderly. A clearer picture of demands that the government can respond to has been compiled into the “17+8 People’s Demands”.
